Can My Car Be Just a Few Inches Over The White Line?
Parkazine Reader Megs asked a question that a lot of people seem to wonder about: "I found a spot where the front rim of my car passes over the first white line before cross walk begins. Should I get a ticket for this? I am upset cuz I did once and I just want to check since there are no official rules or guidebook that the DMV gives out when we freaking get a license."
Answer: Well. I’m always sorry to hear when someone gets a parking ticket. It really is a matter of ‘Official Discretion’. There is no official ruling on how much of your car may extend past a line that is near an intersection. As a general rule, I’ve found that USUALLY you are safe if it protrudes into the "danger zone" by a foot or less. That being said, even though (believe it or not!) most will cut you a little slack, a traffic agent can ticket you for this, so do so at your own risk.
