What exactly does Double Parking mean?
Parkazine Reader Marcel asked this great question: "I have a bar/restaurant on 3rd ave b/t 93-94st in Manhattan. I frequently drop off goods at my place. I have received numerous parking tickets for double parking, even if the car is running, the door is open and I am 2 feet away handing something off. What is the actual definition of double parking, is there any allowance for business owners in front of their business, and do you think these can be appealed?"
Answer: Sorry to hear about these parking tickets you’ve received. I think that there is a good chance for them to be appealed, but I’d need a lot more info from you to give you sound advice. I can say that the definition of double parking means parking (i.e. not being in your car) next to another parked car. You’d be better off staying behind the wheel of your car and having your employees or whoever you hand off to come out and get it. That way you are not actually parking, but ‘standing’. Staying behind the wheel is a small point but could be the difference in getting those double parking tickets or not. Even you so, you’d have to make it quick and not stay there long.
